Greensboro is the third-largest city by population in North Carolina and the county seat of Guilford County. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 269,666. Three major interstate highways (Interstate 85, Interstate 40 and Interstate 73) in the Piedmont region of central North Carolina were built to intersect at this city.
Greensboro's Sustainability Action Plan was submitted by the Community Sustainability Council (CSC) in 2011. The CSC recommended the City establish a preliminary goal of stabilizing GHG emissions at forecasted 2010 levels by the year 2020. To reach this goal, the plan proposes new policies in the topics areas of: transportation & land use, green jobs & buildings, waste reduction & recycling, city operations, nature in the city, education & outreach, green technologies, and adaptation.
