Overview

The New York Restoration Project's 2017 spring tree giveaway program was hosted by sixteen (16) organizations across New York City's five (5) boroughs. Trees were selected for adoption on the NYRP website and then shipped to each organization for pickup. Volunteers at each pickup location provided information about their adopted tree, proper planting techniques, and ways to make sure it grows into a healthy adult tree. Additional tree giveaway events will be help in fall 2017.

Project Owner

New York Restoration Project is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Founded by Bette Midler in 1995, the NYRP was originally tasked with revitalizing neglected neighborhood parks in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods across New York City. The NYRP are also known as a private partner of Michael Bloomberg's MillionTreesNYC campaign championing the famous planting of one million new trees across New York City before 2013. Together NYRP and Urban Offsets aim to plant 25,000 trees across the City's five boroughs by 2022.

Location

People and organizations pick up trees based on proximity to their closest pickup location. Trees are then brought back to the owner's/organization's private property and planted according to best practices. Planting locations will be updated following the first tree inventory later in 2017. Pickup locations are found below in Planning Site Description.

Planting Site

The project trees have been planted across all the five boroughs of New York City. The donation sites were: SCA Riverbank, Eastern Queens Alliance, HomeDepot Woodhaven, Crotona Park, LES Ecology Pleasant, Ladies of Elegance, Bronx Works, ENY Farms, Edible Schoolyard, BPL Bay Ridge, Soundview Park, Home Depot - Starett City, H.E.A.LT.H. 4 Youths, NETS.
