Burton Snowboards together with Vail Resorts offset the 2017 Burton U.S. Open through a purchase from Urban Offsets. In addition to the carbon-neutral U.S. Open, the company has committed to reducing its Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon footprint at global headquarters by 20% by the year 2020. In order to reach that goal, they are doing things like installing a new rooftop solar array, conducting full energy audits, and have recently changed out most lighting to energy efficient fixtures. Burton has partnered with Business for Innovative Climate and Energy Policy (BICEP) and Protect Our Winters (POW) to actively speak out on climate and energy policy through lobbying efforts at the state and federal level.
"Urban Offsets provided us with offsets and RECs that made the 2017 Burton U.S. Open Snowboarding Championships carbon neutral while also supporting urban forestry in New York City."- Burton Snowboards
