Looking to be one of the leaders in climate change Green Mountain College has developed a partnership with Urban Offsets. This partnership not only offsets the college's greenhouse gas emissions but also supports urban tree growth.
Through the help of their innovative biomass heating plant, Green Mountain College became the second school in the US to reach carbon neutrality. The Urban Offsets partnership is one of many steps the students and faculty are taking to maintain their emissions goals. The goals are outlined in many sustainability reports the college has voluntarily published since 1995. Recent actions have included successfully divesting from fossil fuels and reducing gross carbon emissions by 50% in the past 10 years. Their next goal is to source 100% of their electricity from renewable sources by the year 2020.
